Vision Statements serve a very different purpose than the purpose served by Mission Statements, yet both are very important in the branding of an organization. Where Mission Statements tell the public and the membership why the organization exists, Vision Statements tell the same audience how the organization expects to go about the business of fulfilling the purposes set forth in the Mission Statement — on a high level. The Vision Statement becomes the guiding force for every action taken by the organization. The organization's Strategic Goals and Objectives represent the more detailed level, shorter term plan for achieving the Vision Statement. As such, the Vision Statement should also be developed with the involvement of the membership.

Dignity Houston needs a Vision Statement, developed in concert with, but separately from its Mission Statement. The attached document, Creating Vision Statements (provided in Word and PDF format), Provides background information on what Vision Statements are, how to create them, and examples of other organization's Vision Statements.

The attached Vision Statement Resolution (supplied in Word format so that it can be easily edited at a Board Meeting, as well as in  PDF format for the benefit of those who cannot open Word documents) provides a proposed resolution for Board action which incorporates a workplan for the development of a Vision Statement.
