The Gulf Coast Archive and Museum of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender History, Inc. is a 501-c-3 organization that was formed in Houston, Texas, by a group of concerned activists so that our collective histories could be saved - as well as be available for educational uses - through the utilization of a museum or similar venue. Although we have had to close the museum space, our archives are still available by appointment. Appointments can be made for access to the archives through Judy by calling 832-722-5785. Additionally, we do have a few satellite exhibits throughout the city and arrangements can be made for temporary ones for special functions. 

Gay & Lesbian Switchboard Houston has been on the line for Houston’s GLBT community since 1982. A service of Montrose Counseling Center [ MCC ], the Switchboard continues to rely upon dedicated and specially trained volunteers to sustain itself.

With support from the United Way of Greater Houston, Texas Office of the Attorney General and community partners, MCC and the Switchboard remain vital links for GLBT individuals throughout Southeast Texas who have become targets of domestic violence and sexual assault. Anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, may contact the Switchboard if they have become a hate crime target.

The mission of HATCH  is:

HATCH is dedicated to empowering gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning youth and their allies, ages 13-20, to become positive contributors to society by providing a safe social environment for GLBTIQA youth, offering role models and peer support, and sponsoring educational and community outreach opportunities.

The vision of HATCH  is:

To achieve a climate of societal acceptance and understanding without regard to sexual identity.

HGLP is a diverse social group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender parents, their partners and their kids, and also parents in planning. Some of us are single and some of us are in relationships. Some of us are very open about being gay parents and some of us are in the process of coming out to our children and the world. We became parents through previous heterosexual relationships, adoption, donor insemination, surrogacy, foster care, or other arrangements. Some of us are still are in the planning stage and some have babies, toddlers, elementary-age kids and teenagers, or grown kids.

The Center is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization located at the Historic Dow School (Silver Street entrance) in the Old Sixth Ward Historic District. The address is 1900 Kane Street, Houston, Texas 77007 and we can be reached at 713-524-3814. The board of directors and other volunteers are focused on serving the community in new and innovative ways as the organization prepares for its fifteenth anniversary year in 2011.

The mission is to empower, educate, and nurture individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, generating a sense of community by providing for their social, emotional, and physical well being.

The Center has the following goals:

• To serve as an affordable, accessible facility in which to hold meetings and events
• To enable organizations to form, grow, and thrive
• To be a clearinghouse of information on community organizations and services
• To provide office space to organizations and businesses
• To offer a place for socializing in a positive environment
• To host informational and educational discussions on relevant issues
• To offer a venue for the arts and cultural expression
• To promote diversity, dialogue, and collaboration among different aspects of the community

In 1992, a group of Houston lesbians became aware of national research showing lesbians at increased risk for breast, lung, ovarian and other cancers, as well as heart disease and stroke. Determined to help reverse this trend, the Lesbian Health Initiative of Houston, Inc. was formed.

TAU CHI , is the Houston area Chapter of TRI - ESS , the Society for the Second Self, an international support organization for heterosexual crossdressers and their significant others. Tau Chi has provided support and service for area crossdressers and their wives, family members, friends and interested persons since 1981. We invite you to learn more about Tau Chi and join our very active organization.

• Educate the Public - seeking to dispel the myths and misinformation by working with educators, community and religious groups, the media, and the general public.
